Patty's Cancer Blog

Hello Old Friends and many new Ones

Well, after an extended time away that I have essentially been traveling while my home was being renovated. I went as far south as Key West which has the most beautiful sunsets in this US. Stopped in Georgia to meet … More…

Nicole (Lady Of The Larynx) threw a punch at your cancer.
Angela sent you a hug.

Hi Patty!

I have often wondered about you, so it’s really good to hear from you. However, I wish you didn’t have to deal with everything you mentioned in your post. I’m so sorry that you are no longer in remission, but I love the fact that you are NOT giving up! We all must hang onto hope, no matter our situation. You certainly have had to deal with more than any one person should have to, but you are amazing with your positive attitude and determination. You are a true inspiration to me! I wish I could give you a big hug, but a virtual one will have to suffice. Please post when you can and let us know how things are going. In the meantime, I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers for sure.

Hugs—
Martha

Dear Sweet Patty,
I’ve been thinking about you, and wondering your travels. When you were out in the country did you look at the stars? The sky is fantastic away from city lights; you can see the Milky Way and meteors.

I’m distressed that you are having new medical problems, especially that you are out of remission. What are your options now?

How is your grandson? And Laura?

Take care of yourself.
Much love,
Andrea

Well Hello, Miss Patty! It is nice to hear from you but not such great news. I suspect you will rise to the top of this set of issues, just like you always do. As Martha said, you are truly an inspiration and I wish I could give you the marrow you so richly deserve. I have recently learned that my reason for being is to witness the lives of our next generation coming to be and knowing I was successful as a momma. I am happy you finally got to hug your country sis:)
Be well, sweet Patty:)
xoxo

Dear Patty;

I am glad you dropped in and let us know what has been up with you. Looks like you have your work cut out for you, beautiful lady. It is so hard to believe there has not been at least 1 bone marrow match since 1994. It makes me wonder how effective that registry is? We learn so much going through this illness during and after. Like you said we were naive, and as the years go on we get a little more cynical about the medical system, or at least I do. Example the Bone Marrow..I feel there had to be at least a couple of matches, and where and who are they going to?

I hope and pray things will get better for you.

Love Barb

Thanks for checking back and updating us, Patty… we missed you! I’m sorry to hear that the beast is back. I’ll be keeping you in my thoughts and sending lots of positive energy your way, that you will knock it back again and get back on the road to good health once more. Hugs and strength-Ann

Dear Patty, I wish all the best for your cardiac cath.
Inspiring doesn’t begin to describe your attitude, in my book.
I can’t imagine how hard it must be to write “no longer in remission”. ...But you also know how to look forward, “full steam ahead”; now that’s some precious determined creative talent.
...No wonder your beauty is renowned.

Your story of meeting your “new” sister really resonates with me. I recently found out I have half brothers; just made contact with one last week. The universe has definitely shifted.
Hugs, Nicole

Just a quick update on my thigh- No more guessing on what this is

Well, I went to my PCP yesterday since my Oncologist said for insurance reasons he could not treat this so after a short visit with him I was quickly sent to a plastic surgeon in the same building. It seems … More…

Louise, Joyce In NC threw a punch at your cancer.

Hi Patty!

You poor dear! Who would have thought a laptop could burn you like that? Let’s hope the antibiotics do their job and fight off any infection. Get sprung out of there soon, GF! You’re in my prayers!

Love,

Martha

Oh goodness, Patti, Keep on hanging in there. So glad they’re taking care of you today. Lots of love, J.

wow…but it DOES happen! I’ve noticed on my left thigh – right under where my the hottest part of my laptop sits – is a different color than the rest of my thigh. It’s “tanner” than the rest. They call it “Toasted Skin Syndrome”. If you google it, you can find a pic of it, too! I keep a small pillow under my laptop now, or a tray. I hope those burns heal quickly!

Oy vey, Patty. (Dr. Weiss will tell you what this means). I’m sure glad you were properly diagnosed. Get well soon. I know you miss Maggie and want out of the hospital.
Love,
Andrea

Those laptops do get incredibly hot. Glad they’ve gotten things figured out and are taking care of you. Let’s hope that this is the end of the “crazy” stuff! Take care, Ann

Patty. You won’t belive it, but as I read your post, here I was typing on my laptop without my laptop table (it was sitting on the floor beside me). I hastily lifted the laptop from my lap and grabed the table. Wow oh wow, I never thought it could do that kind of damage. Why don’t the computer people tell you that, advertise it, media alerts etc. This is plain and downright awful. Here they talk about cell phones and brain cancer, well how about skin cancer! I’m sorry you have to go through this Patty. I’m sure it’s the last thing you thought would come down your alley. Anyway I sure am appreciating any little tips that come my way. How is the grand baby? I’m sure you want to get out and walk and coo over the little one. Take care friend.

I couldn’t agree more Weezie, There is so much talk in the media about long term use of cell phones. This was basically a process of elimination for I have a queen size bed and I will often lay in bed with the laptop which I got 2 years ago after having a desktop which was getting difficult to sit comfortably for any length of time after the vertebra fractures. I did have thin PJ’s on as well as a sheet between me & this laptop. I guess you just never know. It is a bit scary when you think this is 2 years old and can cause such damage to my skin. Lucky, it didn’t cause a fire. When they were doing dressing changes today I was shocked at the look of it now, it almost completely black, not black & blue but black. I have no feeling when they apply the RX & change bandage. I sure hopw this is also temporary. My Onc. said he is going to wrap me in bubblle wrap. I think he was kidding now I’m not so sure. Thanks Weezie. Love, Patty

I would never thought of that! Get a lap desk and get well fast!
xoxo

Oh my goodness, Patty. I never dreamed that a laptop could cause such damage. I don’t like laptops and I don’t use them but my daughter and son-in-law do. I will have to tell my son-in-law about this before it happens to him. He uses the laptop every night for several hours. I am glad they are taking care of you. Take care and hang in there, my friend. God Bless.
Love and hugs,
Joyce In NC

My goodness dear Patty, why do you get to be the one who has to get the awful laptop burn? I can’t believe there isn’t more news about this.
I hope by now you are well on your way to healing.
Sending lots of healing energy to you and a truckload full of 4 leaf clovers.
Hugs, Nicole
